Alex Marx is a young writer and actor based in New York.
This August he had a very successful run of his first play "The Space in Between" at the Edinburgh Fringe Theatre Festival, receiving very positive reviews and making a considerable sum of money for his young company.
How was he able to do this? With a little help from Raadzaak, that's how. "It took me about ten months in total to get the script to the point that I was happy with other people reading it. I was then able to run a series of workshops where I could continue to tinker with the dialogue a bit, try out different directions and most importantly decide upon a cast.
We then rehearsed for eight weeks and put on a six-night run in March. We managed to get a good buzz going about the show and sold out all six nights well in advance. We were all very encouraged by this and decided that we would try and get the show produced at the Edinburgh festival during the summer. But in order to do so we would need a considerable amount of capital to begin with. We were planning to run for 22 nights and the cost of publicity and rental of the space were much higher than in March. I had heard about Raadzaak from my father, who is one of the "elders" on the site, and we asked for some advise on how to raise funds. We got that and in exchange offered some exposure for the website. It worked out very well for all involved.
There is no way I would have been able to produce the show without the help of some people on raadzaak. I think it is a great way for young people like me to get practical help in making their dreams become a reality."
